![]() Mike Napier | ![]() I was born March 10th, 1978 in San Diego, California at Balboa Naval Hospital. My parents, Michael S. Napier (the original) and Martha, were saved by the time I was born. My dad flew fighter jets in the Navy (F-4's, F-14's, and A-4's) and was stationed at Miramar (Top Gun) when I was born. My mom was and is a devoted and exceptional housewife, modeling Proverbs 31 thanks to our Lord's efficacious (thanks CHS for the keen word) grace. I'm the oldest of three children. My brother John Meade, the volatile middle child (just kiddin' John), was born also in California in 1980. David is the youngest, born in Norfolk, Virginia. We moved to Virginia Beach, VA when my dad was stationed to Oceana Naval after getting in the reserves to spend more time with his family. I was then almost 5 years old. He soon got a job as a pilot at Piedmont Airlines (now USAirways) where he currently applies himself with diligence. It was about this time I felt a need for salvation. I prayed every night for months hoping that my salvation would "stick." We attended a Presbyterian Church for 10 years but weren't too involved and felt led to go to a different church local. A friend from homeschooling sports invited me to a PDI church in Virginia Beach called Southside. I loved it. I urged my family to start coming, so they did and we soon were built into the wonderful church. I am unsure precisely when I was regenerated, however it was here (now Sovereign Grace Church) that my affections and passions were fanned and grew as I learned the meaning and importance of the Cross and a proper view of God, man and this world. I don't have an exciting salvation testimony but my testimony is of God's plan to glorify Himself post-Cross: the Church, specifically the local church. My family has now been built into Sovereign Grace Church for six grace-filled years. We Love it. The support, love, direct care, correction and teaching we experience there can only be a direct result of God's grace and providence. My brother John and I went to the high school ministry, Powerline, and we are now both in the singles ministry while David is in Powerline. A large part of this was the best friend that the Lord of Hosts knit my soul together with: Tyler Barnes. A constant companion, encouragement, growth-inducer and reminder of God's grace is this man. He is quite the closest and best friend I have ever had. | ![]() ![]()

| There are dozens of others whom God has placed in my life so graciously. I grew up a music fan, the son of music fans. Motown to Michael W. Smith, Stax/Volt to Russ Taff and Mylon Lefevre, I loved it all. (Except for country, I mean Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Sr. are O.K., but this modern stuff, eeeeewwww. However, if you enjoy it, as my friend Kate says, there is grace for that.) My dad has played the guitar for a long time and is excellent at it. I started picking it up from him about 5 or 6 years ago and soon started playing bass also. I really enjoy worshiping God in this way. Tyler (the aforementioned best friend) and I started playing together and formed a band with drummer Nathan Sanford (then Bob Ivy, then Nate again) and Aaron Baird (who is now the electric guitar player for the New Attitude Band). We were a band for 2 years, playing local shows. Later I was a part of the worship team with Eric and Augie Hughes and Aaron Baird and Ted Slater. Later Eric formed the five of us into a community college outreach band. This was the origins of the NAB. The recording project was a great, grace-filled experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. I sincerily desire and fervently pray that it will promote and aid worship in your life. I love playing and worshiping with these guys. I love playing for the church worship team and seeing the effect of God's presence on the people worshiping corporately. My favorite color is blue (or Hunter green). My favorite foods are my mom's Chicken Devan (birthday meal), and Strawberry Pretzel Salad (Thanksgiving and Christmas), and celery. I really enjoy baseball, whether watching or playing it. I played Homeschool sports in high school, including Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and, as I mentioned, Baseball. My favorite thing to do is lead the worship time in caregroup. It is such a blessing and grace-filled venture. My nicknames are Big Mike, Mikey, Napes, Dude, Punch, and "the Bass Player." I have many influences for playing the bass. Some of them I don't recomend for others, some I do. Please use discretion in listening to music. If you're not sure and can't listen to it in faith, DON'T! My influences for better or for worse go as follows: Willie Dezan, Abraham Laboriel, Victor Wooten, Luis Johnson, B.C., James Jamerson, Duck Dunn, Nathan East, Jaco Pastorius, Kim Stone, Flea, John Paul Jones, Noel Redding, Paul Macartney, Doug Pinnick, Charles Mingus, Mr. Hughes, Jeremey Rogers, Lew DeFabreezio (and Ed), the rest of the band, etc., blah, on & on. I recommend Abraham Laboriel for inspiration and technique. I play a Fender Jazz 5 string (Mexican) with GHS Boomers strings (light gauge for slappin' and poppin'). I use spectra-flex cables and have a Fender BXR 200 combo for an amp. Most of this equipment were gifts from my parents. Thanks Dad and Mom! If I could encourage anyone in anything it would be to have a correct view of worship. It is not just Sunday morning but your whole life! I recommend studying John 4 for this topic. Love, grace and peace. | ||
